paper title : a title to land evidenced by a conveyance or chain of conveyances; the term generally implying that such title, while it has color or plausibility, is without substantial validity. In Iran, however, such titles are sometimes considered valid if and when meeting certain legal requirements on the basis of which printed title deeds may be subsequently issued to the owner(s) by the local Department of Instruments and Landed Property Registration Authority. • court rolls (the rolls of a manor [in Britain], whereon are entered all surrenders, wills, grants, admissions, and other acts relating to the manor. They are considered to belong to the lord of the manor, and are kept by the steward as his agent; but they are in the nature of public books for the benefit of the tenants as well as the lord, so that it is a matter of course for the courts of law to grant an inspection of the court rolls in a question between two tenants. – JBS
